Best times to visit the Riviera Maya

The best times to visit the Riviera Maya will depend on your personal situation like budget and availability. If you are going during school breaks, expect to pay a premium for your airfare, hotel and places will be crowded. But if you are flexible, the shoulder season is usually the best value for your money.

When to go:

If you are on a budget, trying to avoid crowds, or just have a better feel for the Rivera Maya, the best months to visit are:

·        February (no rains)

·        May and early June (best weather)

·        September through mid-November (rainy season, and fewer crowds)

During these times, you will have a good temperature (70-85f or 21-29c), fewer crowds, and better prices. Although you might encounter some rain, if you plan accordingly, it will not affect your vacations.

Months to avoid:

·        Spring Break 2nd week of March to the first week of April

·        June and July

The benefits of going during peak times like spring break (2nd week of March to the first week of April) is that if you are going to party, you are going to enjoy your time, especially if you are staying in Cancun, as all the clubs and touristy places are alive.

During the summer (July-Aug), temperatures, prices, and crowds rise exponentially, but you get incredible photos of the turquoise sea, everything is open, and you will enjoy even more the dipping into a cenote and get a break from the heat.

 My favorite time:

As you can see, there is really not a bad time to visit the Riviera Maya, but plan to visit according to your personal preferences. For me, May and November are just the best months to visit, but I love getting good deals and avoiding crowds. How about you?
